• The SUN 7054613 is the High Availability (HA) Host Bus Controller (HBC) – the main redundant controller module for Oracle StorageTek SL3000 Modular Tape Library.
• This is the brain of the library that controls all robotic movements, tape drive communication, cartridge access, inventory, calibration, diagnostics, host connectivity and overall library operation.
• When two HBCs are installed (standard HA configuration), they operate in active/passive or active/active mode with automatic failover – extremely important for mission-critical, non-stop tape operations.
• The 7054613 is used in virtually every production SL3000 library ever shipped – it is one of the most common spare parts ordered when doing SL3000 maintenance, controller replacement or HA upgrade.
• Typical customers are large banks, insurance companies, government institutions, research centres, media companies and any organisation that still runs large-scale tape backup/archive with SL3000.
• The module contains the main processor, memory, Fibre Channel host interfaces (usually dual 8 Gb FC), internal system bus connections, robotic control electronics, and the logic needed to talk to all CAPs, drives, robots and operator panels.
• In the vast majority of cases when an SL3000 reports severe robotic faults, library freeze, or both controllers are faulted – the 7054613 HBC is the first part everyone replaces.
