The Cisco WS-C3850-24P-E is a stackable, enterprise-class Layer 3 access/aggregation switch from the Catalyst 3850 Series — one of Cisco's most successful and widely deployed fixed-configuration switches of the 2010s.

This model is the 24-port PoE+ version with IP Services software image (full Layer 3 routing capabilities), designed for converged wired + wireless networks, high-density PoE deployments, and secure branch/campus access layers.

The WS-C3850-24P-E provides 24 × 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 ports with IEEE 802.3at PoE+ (up to 30W per port), allowing it to power Cisco wireless access points, IP phones, IP cameras, video endpoints, door access readers, and other PoE+ devices directly from the switch. It also includes 4 × 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ uplink ports for high-speed fiber or copper aggregation to core/distribution layers or data center switches.

It runs Cisco's IP Services image (full dynamic routing: OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, full multicast, advanced QoS, MPLS, VRF-Lite), making it suitable for Layer 3 routing at the access layer, inter-VLAN routing, or small-to-medium campus/branch routing.

The switch supports StackWise-480 technology (480 Gbps stack bandwidth), allowing up to 9 switches in a single logical stack — creating a unified system with up to 216 PoE+ ports managed through one IP address. Stacking simplifies management, enables cross-stack QoS/security/routing, and provides high resiliency.

It includes Cisco StackPower capability (with optional StackPower cables and compatible PSUs), allowing power sharing across the stack for maximum PoE availability and redundancy.

This model was extremely popular for converged wired + wireless access — it integrates natively with Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (via FlexConnect or local mode) and supports Cisco TrustSec, Flexible NetFlow, Energy Efficient Ethernet, IPv6, and advanced security features.
