The Dell YJXMR is a 2-meter (6.56 ft) external SAS cable with SFF-8088 on one end and SFF-8644 (Mini-SAS HD) on the other. It is a genuine Dell-branded cable designed for connecting servers with older 6 Gbps SAS ports to newer 12 Gbps SAS storage enclosures or expanders (and vice versa).

This is a high-quality, shielded external SAS cable that bridges SAS-2 (6 Gbps) and SAS-3 (12 Gbps) infrastructure. It allows full backward and forward compatibility:

  • Connects a 12 Gbps SAS controller/HBA (SFF-8644 port) on a newer server to an older 6 Gbps SAS disk enclosure (SFF-8088 port), or
  • Connects an older server (SFF-8088) to a newer 12 Gbps enclosure (SFF-8644).

The cable supports up to 12 Gbps per lane (48 Gbps aggregate across 4 lanes) when both ends are SAS-3 capable. When one end is limited to SAS-2, the link negotiates down to 6 Gbps (24 Gbps aggregate) — still full performance for older enclosures.
